Looking for a splashin’ good time to cool off this summer? Pools, spray parks and splash pads abound across the borderland, and the city is working to create more water fun.

The city of El Paso is investing some $25 million from the 2012 quality of life bond to build neighborhood waterparks, which will include slides, lazy rivers, toddler pools, climbing walls, lap pools, cabanas and concessions, among other amenities.

Three of the waterparks recently broke ground and are under construction:

• Lost Kingdom Neighborhood Waterpark, Ross Middle School, 6101 Hughey in Central. The Mayan-themed waterpark is set to open summer 2020.

• Camp Cohen, old Cohen Stadium site, 9700 Gateway North, in Northeast. The sports-themed park is scheduled to open in summer 2020.

• Chapoteo / Mission Valley: Lionel Fort Park, 7735 Phoenix. Family fiesta theme, summer 2020.

Other waterparks in the works include:

• Oasis / Eastside: East Side Regional Park, 13501 Jason Crandall, Hueco Tanks themed, summer 2020.

• Westside: Site/name to be determined when funding is identified and available.

In the meantime, check out what’s up in water fun around the city:
