More than 700 Socorro Independent School District students started the 2018-2019 school year at a new campus, eager to learn and excited for endless opportunities.
Sgt. Jose F. Carrasco Elementary School, home of the Buffalo, is Team SISD’s 48th campus. The school serves pre-k through fifth-grade students, and is located at 14900 Tierra Mirage, in far East El Paso. The state-of-the-art facility was built with savings from Bond 2011.
“Opening up this school has been an amazing experience,” said Jesse Sepulveda, school principal. “We have a very supportive community of parents, teachers, staff and scholars. In such a short period of time, we have created a culture that embodies the ideals of success!”
Carrasco teachers were excited to meet their first cohort of students. Their focus is college and career readiness, and building a solid foundation to help the young Buffaloes become successful learners.
“I love teaching here because we work together, have high expectations for our students, and everyone is really supportive,” said Karina Purdy, a Pre-Kindergarten teacher.
Student and parents also love the new campus, they enjoy volunteering and supporting campus events.
“I really like the new school,” said Gracie Fo, a parent volunteer. “It’s nice to bond with the students, the teachers and administrators. Everyone is really nice, and the classrooms hubs and playground are really neat and different.”
