Socorro Independent School District Superintendent José Espinoza, Ed.D. earned two major awards this spring for his dedication to ensure all SISD students are prepared for the future.
In January, Espinoza was named the 2018-19 Tech Savvy Superintendent by the Texas K12 CTO Council at the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) Mid-Winter Conference in Austin. In March, he received the 2019 Sam Houston State University Distinguished Educator of the Year award.
“Our focus never wavers from ensuring our students are truly prepared for college, careers, and life,” he said. “Team SISD is an incredible school district with a team mentality to treat and educate all students as if they are our own children.”
The superintendent was awarded the Tech Savvy award for promoting and supporting innovative technology in the classroom. He has been a leader in integrating digital learning and the latest technological resources to improve student learning, empower educators, and ensure SISD students are prepared for a technology-based, global society.
The recognition from SHSU’s College of Education honored Espinoza, who received a doctorate in educational leadership at the university, for making significant contributions in the field of education and providing outstanding service and leadership for all students and staff.
Under Espinoza’s leadership, Team SISD has experienced unprecedented student achievement and academic gains. Most notably, SISD is one of only three among the largest 50 districts in the state to earn the postsecondary readiness distinction in the Texas Education Agency’s latest school accountability ratings.
