With the school year well under way, I am proud to witness the endless opportunities we provide in Team SISD benefiting our students across the district.

The instruction they are receiving from our outstanding educators is providing college and career readiness, fine arts, athletics, career and technical education, digital instruction, and more, all in world-class facilities and a safe and supportive learning environment.

We’re doing more than ever to ensure that all students are prepared to excel in college, careers and life, and that commitment is evidenced in our latest Texas Education Agency accountability ratings.

SISD is the largest district in the region and the state to earn the postsecondary readiness distinction in the 2018 TEA ratings. In addition, our overall high B (88) rating shows that Team SISD is doing a great job of ensuring our students are achieving, progressing, and being prepared for postsecondary education.

Our highly qualified, effective faculty and staff are the reason behind our success! A great example of that is the recently named 2018 Region 19 Secondary Teacher of the Year, our own Americas High School teacher Eduardo Hinojos.

Our students and staff are performing at unprecedented levels! However, we are always striving for 100 percent academic excellence and we will get there by refining and strengthening our instructional strategies and student support systems.

This year, we launched new programs and were awarded a generous grant to provide more opportunities for our students and staff to continue succeeding.

The one-of-a-kind Aztec Architectural Program at El Dorado and the new Hernando Middle School International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme will give more students real-world experiences to be ready to excel in postsecondary education and future careers.

The Texas Education Agency awarded Team SISD a $1.4 million 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant so we can provide free afterschool and summer enrichment programs to our students.

The TEA also gave us the approval to open early college programs at three of our high schools. We already offer the most Early College High School programs in the region, and this will make us the only district to offer the programs at all of our high schools.

We will stop at nothing to give our students the best education because we treat and educate every student as if they are our own children! I remain committed to working with everyone in Team SISD to provide endless opportunities for ALL students, so they can pursue their goals and achieve their life’s dreams.
