Juan Cabrera / EPISD Superintendent

High-quality teaching and learning are the hallmark of the historic academic turnaround our students and schools are experiencing. In every corner of the El Paso Independent School District, highly-trained teachers are guiding motivated students through different and effective styles of learning that will help them be prepared for life after high school.

From the multi-lingual approach to instruction in our pre-kinder classrooms, to the myriad of program options we offer high-school students from throughout El Paso County, EPISD has become the premiere school district for academics.

In fact, figures from the Texas Education Agency show EPISD students earned more academic commendations than any other school district in the region.  Test scores also show that EPISD is one of the best-performing urban school districts in all of Texas.

These accolades are just a few indicators of the historic transformation happening in the District.  Consider these facts:

In 2018, the number of EPISD students who performed at the “Masters” level in Algebra I improved by 19 percentage points over the previous year.

EPISD is third in Texas for districts with the most schools earning all available Texas Education Agency academic and college-readiness distinctions.

STAAR results for 2018 showed more EPISD students performed at the “Masters” level in nine of the 10 subjects tested than in the previous year.

The Class of 2018 earned more than $108 million in scholarships and post-secondary education funding — a 5 percent increase from the previous year.

EPISD is the only school district to offer pre-kinder for 3-year-olds.

EPISD has one-to-one distribution of laptops among secondary students, including more than 10,000 MacBook Air devices issued.

These accomplishments, coupled with the countless fine arts and athletic milestones our students also achieved, helped make the 2018-19 a banner year for EPISD.

As we head into the summer break and put the finishing touches to the school year, I want to thank our teachers and community members for the unbelievable dedication they have demonstrated. The success of the District is a testament to the support they have given our students.

Let’s finish the year strong and have a restful summer so that the 2019-20 school year can be an even better one.
