Out of School Program (Connect Program) Supervised drop-in out of school programs for youth ages six to fourteen along with mentor opportunities for teens ages 15-17 are offered. Locations include all Recreation Centers. Braden Aboud Foundation has been a tremendous asset to the program.
Aquatics Visit our indoor and outdoor pools and participate in swimming, aerobics, summer swim leagues and other programs. Indoor heated pools are open year round; outdoor pools are open Memorial Day to Labor Day. Rent a pool for a party or ask about the famed Gus and Goldie Learn to Swim Program.
Classes Online Registration Online Registration for Classes: The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation offers convenient and user friendly registrations online for a variety of classes. Some of the many leisure and aquatic classes available for registration include zumba, yoga, tai-chi, karate, ballet, gymnastics, water aerobics, learn to swim and many more! Classes are available for adults and children.
El Paso Rose Garden The El Paso Parks and Recreation Department has one of only 137 Rose Gardens in the country with a waterfall, fishpond, and thousands of roses. The majestic Garden in central El Paso is open from March 1st to November 30th and is in partnership with Texas AgriLife and the Master Gardeners of El Paso. The Garden will celebrate the 60 year anniversary in 2019 and can also be rented for weddings. Information (915) 212-0092.
Mini-Sports Program This program began in 1991 offering opportunities for children ages 4-7 to play basketball, indoor soccer and T-ball in a non-competitive and fun-filled environment. The 4-5 year olds are in one division and the 6-7 year olds are in a separate division. There is also a league for 3 years only as well and in all age groups no score is kept and sportsmanship and fair play, is the focus of the league with qualified volunteer coaches who also go through a background check. Awards are given to each participant at the end of the season and registration is available at any Recreation Center or online at www.elpasotexas.gov/parks.
Park Maintenance The El Paso Parks and Recreation Department has a dedicated crew for park maintenance for the city’s 276 parks in the city. They also assist with the El Paso Rose Garden and sports ballfield maintenance and upkeep.
Pre School / Day Care The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department offers Day-Care operations and Pre-School programs at two facilities year round in the City for children ages 2-5 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. weekdays. Seasonal opportunities are also available from August to May or the Summer Camp in June and July.
Locations are in west El Paso at Galatzan Recreation Center, 650 Wallenberg Dr. (915) 842-8754 and in northeast El Paso at Veterans Recreation Center, 5301 Salem Dr. (915) 822-8859. The hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. weekdays except city holidays.
Five domains are taught in writing, math, social studies, science and art along with letters, colors, numbers, shapes, story-time, and music.
Both locations are licensed through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services with professionally trained, certified, and caring staff to make each child feel welcomed. A variety of programs is offered along with giving an equally great learning experience.
Recreation Centers There are sixteen centers located throughout the city. These centers offer activities in sports, fitness, ballet, karate, Zumba, tai-chi, yoga, computers, special activities and more. There is free use of billiards, ping-pong and foosball tables. Rooms are available for rentals ranging from wedding receptions to birthday parties to quinceaneras and other events as well.
Senior Centers Seniors can engage in activities like arts and crafts, ceramics, sewing, quilting, bridge, canasta, bingo, computer training, physical activities and much more and meeting rooms are also available at the Senior Centers. The El Paso Senior Games sponsored by United Healthcare and Urgent Care Home Health Inc. is one of the signature events for the Department as it takes place in March, April and May. Parks, Shelter and Outdoor Reserves Enclosed shelters and fenced –in reserve areas can be rented for private events. Reservations are accepted up to 1 year in advance. The actual shelters and city parks are listed on the department website at www.elpasotexas.gov/parks. Information (915) 212-0092.
Social Media The Parks and Recreation Department offers Facebook, Twitter, and You Tube opportunities to interact with the Department 24 hours a day along with suggestions or compliments online at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Special Events Special city-wide events are scheduled on a regular basis year round as a year long calendar with detailed information on events available at the Department website.
Spray Parks The city Parks and Recreation Department manages eight (8) spray parks throughout the city with more coming in 2020. The spray parks are free to join in and have fun and are open daily mid-April through October 30th from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. A listing of all of the Spray Parks in the city can be located at www.elpasotexas.gov/parks.

Youth Scholarships Apply now and pre-qualify for fee waivers for eligible youth ages 17 and under. Household must meet moderate and low income guidelines outlined by the Federal Housing and Urban Development Agency (HUD). Up to $150 per year per youth in fee waivers. The Club Rec Summer Camp Program for ages 6-12 will be held June 10th through August 2nd. The Club Rec registration fee is $40 per week per child. A Teenage Leadership Program for youth ages 13-16 will also be offered with a fee of $20 per week per child. Registration is ongoing at any Recreation Center in person or online at the Parks and Recreation website: www.elpasotexas.gov/parks (non-scholarship applicants only).
Club Rec provides recreational activities, sports, physical fitness, arts and crafts, swimming, field trips, guest speakers and a free lunch for all of the participants.
Youth Scholarships are available for Club Rec and the Teen Leadership Program; applications are available at Recreation Centers however, registrations for scholarships must be done in person.

Mini Sports Summer
Basketball League (Ages 4-7)
The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department will run the Mini Sports Basketball League from June 1st – July 20th at various recreation centers throughout the city with a fee of $40 per child. (Youth Scholarships are available).
Registration begins April 22, 2019 the first day of the games. The league is for both boys and girls between the ages of 4-7 and the teams are divided into two divisions; 4-5 year olds and 6-7 year olds. Teams are scheduled to practice one hour during the week, and games are played on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
The Jump Start program is available for children that are three (3) years old (only) – created to assist in their motor skills development. The program is scheduled for one-hour practices during the week, with a game scheduled for Saturdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Both programs are non-competitive (no scoring) and are developmental. The goal for these programs are to teach teamwork, skills, sportsmanship, and to provide a safe, nurturing and fun environment for children regardless of skill level.
Parent classes are required and classes are held at most Recreation Centers. Call your closest Recreation Center for class dates. The cost is $5 per class/per family, or $7 for parent video. Information- (915) 212-0393.
National Kids to Parks Day
The free event is on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Chuck Heinrich Park, on Officer Andrew Barcena Dr. in northeast El Paso from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Kids to Parks Day encourages families to get outside and be physically active. Program will introduce different outdoor activities that families could participate in such as showing proper casting, knot tying, orienting, water conservation and many more activities.
