Pre-School and Day Care Programs

The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department offers Day-Care operations and Pre-School programs at two facilities year round in the City for children ages 2-5 from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. weekdays. Seasonal opportunities are also available from August to May or the Summer Camp in June and July.

Locations are in west El Paso at Galatzan Recreation Center, 650 Wallenberg Dr. and in northeast El Paso at Veterans Recreation Center, 5301 Salem Dr. The hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. weekdays except city holidays.

Five domains are taught in writing, math, social studies, science and art along with letters, colors, numbers, shapes, story-time, and music.

Both locations are licensed through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services with professionally trained, certified, and caring staff to make each child feel welcomed. A variety of programs is offered along with giving an equally great learning experience.

The staff members at Galatzan and Veterans Day Care Centers are trained in early childhood education so they can help each child grow developmentally while also nurturing their growing skills. Both facilities offer a mix of activities during the day to teach different skills, such as singing, dancing, storytelling and outdoor recreational play. The children also learn about colors, numbers, ABC’s and socialization skills in a structured setting along with many varied activities to stimulate their mind.

Each center offers a multitude of activities and events that are age appropriate and provide a wholesome and healthy perspective in learning. Although there are no field trips, presenters do come to the Center to invigorate the children on a variety of topics.

Benefits are endless when it comes to recreation and even more so with childcare as both pre-schools have smaller classroom sizes, instructor turnaround is low and families continue to bring in the next generation of children.

The Day Care fees are available by visiting or for more information call (915) 842-8754 for Galatzan Recreation Center or (915) 822-8859 for Veterans Recreation Center.

After School Programs at EPISD and YISD Schools

The program is currently available at fourteen (13) select EPISD and five (5) select YISD elementary schools Monday through Friday from end of school to 6:00 p.m. for ages 5-12. The fee is $5 per week and registration is ongoing at any Recreation facility. The program includes arts and crafts, board games, outdoor activities and a homework corner along with a nutritious evening meal. The Braden Aboud Foundation has been a tremendous asset to the program.

Out of School Program (Connect Program) at Recreation Centers

The City of El Paso Parks and Recreation Department offers supervised drop-in out of school programs for youth ages six to fourteen along with mentor opportunities for teens ages 15-17.  Locations include any of the Department’s sixteen (16) Recreation Centers from school dismissal to 6:00 p.m. The Braden Aboud Foundation has been a tremendous asset to the program.
