Eight Socorro Independent School District fine arts students have advanced to all-state band, choir, wind ensemble and jazz band groups.
“To have eight fine arts students advancing to state is outstanding! This is a great showing,” said Don Rominsky, SISD’s fine arts director. “SISD students will be performing with the best in the state. This shows we have a quality program throughout all the fine arts disciplines.”
The 2017 Texas Music Educators Association Clinic/Convention was Feb. 8-11 in San Antonio. The students spent the first few days rehearsing and their week culminated with a concert for each musical group. The convention is the largest and one of the premier of its kind in the nation.
The SISD all-state students are from Montwood High School: Guillermo Lopez, bass guitar, jazz; Matthew Palacios, alto clarinet, band; and Julian Saucedo, tenor sax, band; from Americas High School: Michael de la Rosa, string bass, wind ensemble and Skylar Gallegos, bassoon, band; from Socorro High School: Raul Olivas, e flat clarinet, band; Sophia Gonzales, b flat clarinet, band; and from Eastlake High School: Cassandra Beato, soprano 2, choir. Beato has made all-state for four years in a row.
