Edwin J. Ojo, M.D., has opened Trinity Gastroenterology at 3270 Joe Battle, Suite 265. Ojo is proficient in all endoscopy procedures, including therapeutic ERCP. He also does motility studies and capsule endoscopy, a wireless capsule endoscope that allows painless endoscopic imaging of the whole of the small bowel.
He is a member of the American College of Physicians, the American Medical Association and the American College of Gastroenterology.
Wells Fargo Bank has promoted Christine Gallegos to the position of community banking president for El Paso. Most recently she served as district manager for East El Paso. Gallegos will be responsible for 12 stores and 347 team members in El Paso. She began her career at Wells Fargo in 1994 as a teller.
Alicia Jowels has been promoted to the position of mortgage loan officer at El Paso Employees Federal Credit Union. Jowels holds a business management degree from Park University and is a Certified Credit Union Executive. She has been employed by the local credit union for 30 years.
Aliana Apodaca, president of El Paso based Positive Directions Co., has been selected as a member of the consulting team that will provide cultural change and leadership development to the Asociacion Nuclear Asco-Vandellos in Tarragona, Spain. Apodaca has provided services as a motivational speaker, executive coach and consultant for more than 20 years.
Chase Bank’s commercial banking group in El Paso has promoted two of its employees. Ruben Hernandez has been promoted to the position of senior banker. Hernandez joined the bank in 1992 as a credit analyst, was promoted to underwriter in 1994, and banker III in 2005. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso. Lianee Fernandez-Rios has been promoted to the position of vice president and credit underwriter III. She joined the bank in 2001 as a commercial lending analyst, and after training in New York and working in Houston, returned to El Paso to join the group as a portfolio associate. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at El Paso.

Sarah B. Faust has joined Kemp Smith, a law firm with offices in Austin and El Paso, as an associate in its environmental, administrative and public law department in Austin. Faust specializes in water and environmental law. She is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin School of Law and studied international environmental law at Sydney University Law School in Australia. Most recently she represented organizations and individuals in environmental litigation and lobbying and served as a clerk with the Fourth Court of Appeals in San Antonio.
Kemp Smith law firm business department partners Allan Goldfarb and Gene Wolf were presenters at the University of Texas at El Paso estate planning conference for women. Goldfarb gave a presentation “Transfer Taxes in Estate Planning.” Goldfarb is board certified in estate planning and probate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Wolf gave a presentation “The Estate Tax: Where are we Now?” Wolf is board certified in estate planning and probate law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He is recognized by the publishers of Law and Politics and Texas Monthly as a Texas Super Lawyer.
Winton/Flair Homes has broken ground on its first near zero energy home. Located in the Edgemont neighborhood, the new home will utilize photovoltaic solar panels and solar hot water heating. It is also being certified as a green home under the Build Green New Mexico Standards and surpasses Energy Star standards. The solar photovoltaic system will be installed by El Paso company Border Solar.
Local nonprofit Casas por Cristo built its 200th home last week. It was built for the Lopez family in Juárez. The nonprofit provides homes for families in need in Juárez.
The Greater El Paso Association of Realtors has announced its endorsements for the March 2 primary election. They are: Sergio Lewis, county commissioner-precinct 2; Dan Haggerty, county commissioner-precinct 4; Veronica Escobar, county judge; and Jo Anne Bernal, county attorney.
The El Paso Baby Café celebrated a year of providing breastfeeding moms a welcoming place to breastfeed their babies last week. The café, sponsored by Texas Tech’s Paul L. Foster School of Medicine and University Medical Center, has had over 1,500 visitors, including 500 new mothers, since its opening. The baby café concept began in England in 2000 as a place where mothers could be supported in their choice to breastfeed in a welcoming café-type setting.
The El Paso Baby Café is the second to open in the United States.
Team Nation won in Texas vs. the Nation’s third annual Rudy’s Beef Bowl. Team Nation participants Rashied Davis, Toney Baker and Jeraill McCuller consumed 2.6 pounds of brisket in 10 minutes.
Team Texas – former Dallas Cowboy and Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy White, Keithon Flemming and Emmanuel Stevens – consumed 1.8 pounds.
