Sergio S. Guerrero was born in Torreon, Mexico on April 17, 1934 and passed away on May 29, 2016. He came to El Paso in 1946, married his high school sweetheart Rosa and raised a family.

He is now reunited with his parents, Salvador and Bertha Guerrero; stepmother Lucy Scicolone, Frank Scicolone, sister Maggie Gangadine and brother Franky Scicolone.

Sergio is survived by wife of 61 years, Rosa R. Guerrero, sisters Ophelia Krewedl (Wally) and Irene Goodman (Mark), and brother Robert Scicolone. He is also survived by children Sergio S. Guerrero Jr., Ana Moncada (Paul) and Roland Guerrero (Karen); grandchildren Anthony, Dominic, Nicholas, Benjamin and Sarah; a great grandchild, Isabel Rose, due in July; and companions Azu’car, Pinguina and Baby Meo’n.

Sergio was an honest, loyal, punctual and hard-working father, grandfather, brother, uncle, coach and educator, whose values live on through his children, grandchildren and the thousands of students, athletes and teammates that he touched.

From 1973-75, Sergio was the B-team baseball and basketball coach at Coronado High School. He also coached the Coronado varsity basketball team for eight more years. He was selected to the El Paso High Hall of Fame in 1992 and the El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.

In 1995, he retired after 35 years with the El Paso Independent School District, teaching and coaching at Ben Milam and Hart Elementary, Ross Junior High and Coronado High School.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Pius X Catholic Church on June 4. Funeral arrangements by Martin Funeral Home, 3839 Montana.
