Sallee Annette Birkelo went to be with our Lord on May 26, 2018, in McAllen, Texas.

Sallee was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on Nov. 11, 1939 to Floyd and Grace Stemper. She has two brothers, Jack Stemper (Char) and Larry Stemper (Judy).

Sallee met James Birkelo at The Hartford Insurance in 1957 where they both were working at the time. Not long after, they married on Nov. 14, 1959. The blessing of their first child, Jeffrey Scott Birkelo, came on Oct. 18, 1960.

They moved to El Paso for Jim’s new job at EIC Insurance. On Dec. 21, 1962, they had their second child, Judi Linn Birkelo.

In 1966, they moved to Odessa, Texas, where they lived until 1971 and relocated back to El Paso.

Sallee was a great golfer and an excellent bowler. She loved her church and was always willing to volunteer for special projects that needed to be done. One of Sallee’s many talents was sewing. On her Singer sewing machine, dated Aug. 11, 1952, she taught her daughter and her granddaughter, Lauren, how to sew.

Sallee was a very smart woman. She could fix almost anything. To supersede her smarts, was her creativity. She had an “eye” for detail and would continually think “outside” of the box. She inspired people.

In 1990, she and Jim moved to Scottsdale, Arizona. In 2000, they had their first grandchild, Lauren Grace Birkelo, who was born on April 8.

Sallee loved being a Grandma. She became one again on July 10, 2001 to Jace Birkelo Lyon. Sallee’s focus was always on the Lord and her family. These two loves brought her joy.

Jim and Sallee always had dogs in their life. They had real compassion for their dogs who were always considered a part of the family.

Jim and Sallee were married 58 years on earth, but forever in their hearts.
