Nearly 300 people went shopping – for a cause – at the annual Power of the Purse fundraiser to support the Women’s Fund of El Paso.
The event, held March 1 at Epic Railyard Center, raised $45,000. It was chaired by Margaux Dalbin and Analisa Silverstein, with honorary chair Marina Monsisvais. It included an auction and mercado with new and gently used purses donated for the event.
A new, Louis Vuitton special edition bag donated by Dede Rogers went to the highest bidder for $14,000. Several purses were donated by María Teresa Kumar, an MSNBC contributor and founding president of civic media group Voto Latino.
Since it was founded in 2004, the Women’s Fund has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to single mothers and other women in the community.
