Andrea Hinojosa, 17, a 2018 Bel Air High School graduate, is one of five students nationwide to win a $100,000 award from the McDonald’s HACER Scholarship Program.

Richard Castro, owner of 26 McDonald’s restaurants in El Paso and founder of the scholarship program, presented Hinojosa with a giant check at the McDonald’s on Yarbrough Drive on Aug. 17.

Hinojosa graduated with a certification as a pharmacy technician and is now a student at George Washington University where she’s studying epidemiology.

“El querer es poder; el hacer es creer,” or to desire is to succeed, to do is to believe, Hinojosa said as she thanked her family, educators and Castro for the award.
