It’s probably some tasty gorditas, spicy enchiladas or crunchy churros at your neighborhood church kermes.

Yes, it’s that time of the year when your family and friends happily join you at church and whip out some cash for the collection box.

The bazaars, known as “kermeses” in Spanish, serve as the primary fundraisers for many area churches.

And each year, they grow bigger and bigger, drawing in more local entertainment and big-name acts such as the iconic Tejano band Little Joe Y La Familia, who will perform at the Saints Peter and Paul Church kermes on Sunday, June 23.
