Nearly 12,000 people took part in the Braden Aboud Memorial Foundation’s Cinco de Mile’ Run/Walk on May 5.
The 13th annual event – one of the largest youth-centered races in the nation – was held at Zach White Elementary School, 4256 Roxbury.
The volunteer-based organization was founded in 2007 to celebrate the life of Braden Aboud, a student-athlete who died in a snow skiing accident at the age of 14.
“The race celebrates Braden’s life but gives back to youth all over El Paso. This is a fundraiser that supports schools, teams, programs, after school projects, yearly tennis shoe giveaways, backpacks, scholarships, tennis programs, and so much more,” Cindi Aboud, Braden’s mother and director of the foundation, said in a statement.
“Braden’s spirit is the catalyst behind our organizational theme,” she stated.
