It was loud, fun and full of heart – but at the end, the El Paso Locomotive FC were on the losing side of their historic inaugural home opener on March 9.

The team lost against OKC Energy FC 3-1 in front of a sold-out crowd of 8,324 fans at Southwest University Park in Downtown.

“Your support was electric, and the atmosphere was unbelievable. Professional soccer has come home to El Paso,” General Manager Andrew Forrest said in a statement.

The Locomotive maintained 68.8 percent possession with 506 passes at an 83.2 percent completion rate. Forward Derek Gebhard netted the first goal in franchise history in the 15th minute of the game.

“The guys are invested in this club, they are invested in each other, and they are a great group,” head coach Mark Lowry said in a statement.

The next match is on the road against the Real Monarchs SLC on Saturday, March 16, which you can catch on ESPN+.

The next home matches are Saturday, March 23 against Rio Grande Valley, and Saturday, March 30 against Orange County SC. During the team’s inaugural season, home matches on Saturday and Sunday will be televised on KVIA Channel 7 and the El Paso-Las Cruces CW.
